Forming A crew

Learn about forming a contingent crew

Philmont expeditions are crew oriented. This means units must register a minimum of 7 slots to secure a reservation. Leading up to the summer, a crew may continue to add Scouts until they have reached a maximum of 12 Scouts. As a rule, the majority of the slots in a crew must be filled by youth. Crews are often formed by individuals from a single Troop or Venturing Crew.

Contingent Crews

Sometimes smaller Troops or Venturing Crew's have trouble filling the 7 slots required to complete a reservation on their own. Contingent crews help multiple units band together to form a single Philmont crew.

75 Years of Philmont

In 1938 Waite Phillips donated his first gift of land to the Boy Scouts of America. 2013 marks the 75th anniversary of this initial donation which has blossomed into Philmont Scout Ranch. In celebration of our 75th anniversary, participants will have the opportunity to earn a special 75th anniversary arrowhead patch.
