What to Bring for Autumn Adventure

When packing for Autumn Adventure, consider protection for each part of your body. Temperatures may vary from 80 degrees during the day to 20 degrees or even lower at night. Whenever possible, bring clothing made of wool, polar fleece, or polypropylene. Even when wet, these fabrics retain some insulating value. Each participant shpould bring or plan to buy the following:

Packing

  • pack with padded hip belt (rental available)
  • capacity: external frame—4000 cu in +/-
  • internal frame—4800 cu in +/-
  • *pack cover—waterproof nylon
  • *6 to 12 (gallon size) Ziploc plastic bags to pack clothes

Sleeeping

Equipment

Crew

  • Cooking kit and utensils
  • Hot pot tongs
  • Backpacking stoves (one stove per four campers)
  • Plastic trash bags
  • Dishwashing soap
  • Scouring pads
  • Toilet paper
  • Two-person tents

Hiking

(sufficient quantities for length of trek, packed in plastic bags)

Philmont will provide water purification tablets, 100 feet of 1/4-inch rope, and a burlap bag.
