Philmont Trail Construction
Our responsibility is to manage, maintain and plan for the responsible use of Philmont’s recreational and natural resources. At a minimum, we ensure that every camper and staff member has access to suitable campsites via a network of trails and roads. This system has, for the most part, been carefully thought out with respect to Philmont’s timber, water, soil and wildlife resources.
Historically, our backcountry infrastructure has been the bulk of our business. Recently, we’ve started taking on more natural resource management responsibilities. Projects such as timber stand improvement, erosion control, habitat improvement, watershed restoration, and environmental education require an ever increasing amount of our time and assets.
As our responsibilities have grown, so has the size of our department. With more than 80 staff members, we are likely one of the largest such groups employed by a private landowner.
