Council Executive Board Training

Having a trained and engaged executive board is a criterion of the Journey to Excellence, and it’s an important characteristic of any successful council. The goal of this conference is to fully orient and train local council executive board members to help support their council’s Journey to Excellence. Executive board members will learn their roles and responsibilities in making sure councils are able to serve community organizations and youth. The hope is that entire boards will participate as a team, but individuals are welcome. The conference is open to current members of local council executive boards from any region of the BSA. Breakout sessions for specific roles will also be offered.

Please encourage fellow board members to attend together so you can build stronger teams. The faculty consists of experienced region, area, and board level volunteers who have achieved success at all levels, including past council presidents and commissioners. Special guests will include the Western Region Key 3.

Course material will be delivered Wednesday morning through Friday evening, but boards and individuals are encouraged to arrive on Sunday to participate in optional programs on Monday and Tuesday. These will include ideas related to conducting a board retreat, special joint sessions with the region and area committee course, Philmont outdoor activities, team building, and opportunities to meet separately to conduct council business and planning.

Attendees with families are strongly encouraged to arrive on Sunday to enjoy the full family program activities that PTC has to offer. The program will include activities and “family free time” for you and your family to enjoy Philmont together. Conference attire is BSA uniform, but attendees should bring casual clothes as well. See the Conference Guidebook for more information.
