Hunting Lodge (Window Rock) Hike

You will be dropped off at Cito Turnaround, hike 2.86 miles on a relatively flat trail with a slight incline towards the stunning Cimarroncito Reservoir. From there you’ll hike 1 beautiful mile to Hunting Lodge. Hunting Lodge is one of the original cabins of Waite and Genevieve Phillips, the benefactors of Philmont. Upon arrival at Hunting Lodge, your family can tour the historic home and to fly fish (Link to Fishing License Info) at Cito Reservoir, a stunning backdrop for a fun family activity. Your family can also choose to participate in a 1.66-mile hike from Hunting Lodge to Window Rock. The combination of hikes from Cito Turnaround to Hunting Lodge (7.72 miles roundtrip) and Hunting Lodge to Window Rock (11.06 miles roundtrip) is strenuous with some elevation change. This hike is led by Philmont Staff.

Please remember to bring:

●     3 liters of water

●     Snack food – Philmont will provide a Trail-Meal Lunch

●     Rain gear

●     Extra layers (as New Mexico weather is always likely to surprise us)

●     Sunscreen
