Backcountry Weather Data

In 2012, Philmont began recording daily weather data at each staffed camp location. Staff monitor temperature and precipitation at 8:00am, 12:00pm and 6:00pm. There is often significant variation both geographically and temporally.

Temperatures at higher elevations such as Clear Creek, Baldy Town and Beaubien are significantly cooler than lower locations such as Zastrow and Ponil. Also note that rainfall tends to increase as elevation increases.
