For the first time Philmont Scout Ranch is opening its trails for a race that welcomes the running and scouting communities to enjoy the pristine wilderness of the Sangre De Cristo mountains. Distances will include a Tooth Ridge Sprint (8 miles), Heavy Half (18 miles), Marathon and 50 Mile through the southern section of Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico. All courses will finish down the iconic Tooth of Time Ridge and through the famous “You Made It!” gate in Philmont’s Base Camp.
Philmont Scout Ranch is a 140,000 acre high adventure camp owned and operated by the Boy Scouts of America with over 300 miles of trails. Philmont’s main program is challenging and educating scouts ages 13 to 21 years of age through 12, 9, and 7-day backpacking treks. Crews of 8-12 additionally have the opportunity to participate in programs such as climbing, shooting, living history, fishing and much more.

50 Mile
This 50 mile race will take you through almost the entirety of Philmont’s south country. You will experience all that the Rockies of northeastern New Mexico have to offer. More info, such as the course map, aid stations and course profile, will be released soon.

Begins at Rayado, following the Rayado River west along the boundary line to Apache Springs before heading north to the summit of Mt. Phillips, then east to Hunting Lodge, south through Clark’s Fork to Schaeffer’s Pass, then down Tooth Ridge.

Marathon
Experience this classic distance as you traverse mountains, cross streams, and run through alpine meadows. Treat yourself to the Sangre de Cristo mountains and run 26.2 miles! More info, such as the course map, aid stations and course profile, will be release soon.

Begins at Rayado, heading westward before turning north at Zastrow toward Aguila Camp, to Bear Caves, then Crater Lake, Miners Park, finishing up following Tooth Ridge into Base Camp.

Heavy Half (18 Miles)
This 18 mile race will highlight some of Philmont’s most famous sights, including the Tooth of Time. You will get to experience Philmont’s backcountry and be back in time to enjoy Base Camp. More info, such as the course map, aid stations and course profile, will be released soon.

Course starts at Lover’s Leap Trailhead, runs the trail to Crater Lake, up through Miner’s Park to Schaeffer’s Pass, then down Tooth Ridge in to Base Camp for the finish.

Tooth Ridge Sprint (8 Miles)
Our shortest race, this event will take you to the famous Tooth of Time. On your way down you will run flowing switchbacks and take in breathtaking vistas. More info, such as the course map, aid stations and course profile, will be released soon.

The course is 8 miles starting at Lovers Leap Trailhead up the Stockade trail then down Tooth Ridge to finish in Base Camp.
