Unit Adventure Camp is a program that provides an opportunity for scouting units to come to Philmont and experience Philmont Training Center programs, preview Philmont’s trek program, and learn about our leadership development programs. This is an excellent experience for any scouting unit wanting to have an experience at Philmont that is not as big a commitment as a trek. This is a fantastic introduction to high adventure for scouters.

Living the Adventure

What Will You Do?

This program is an opportunity to experience Philmont as a full scouting unit. Family members are welcome to join the unit but are not required to do so. Activities include backcountry hikes, high ropes and climbing tower, range and target activities, fly fishing, craft center, museum tours, team building activities, and so much more. This program includes an overnight backcountry experience with an evening backcountry campfire show.

Participants will stay in tent housing at the Philmont Training Center and enjoy meals in the Dining Hall. Each night, scouts can participate in evening programs at PTC, including the world-famous Cobbler Night. This is not a merit badge program.

This program is for units to come to Philmont together and enjoy day activities while staying at the Philmont Training Center at night, apart from one overnight campout.

How it Works

  1. Your unit will arrive on a Sunday to check in at the Philmont Training Center.
  2. After arrival you will settle into accommodations (canvas tent for two with electricity) and head to dinner.
  3. After dinner there is an orientation to go over the schedule for the week.
  4. Later that evening there is an opening program for everyone staying at Philmont Training Center.
  5. Scheduled programs begin Monday morning. Programs are guided by Philmont staff, but adult supervision is the responsibility of the unit leaders with the group. Units are responsible for ensuring safeguarding youth procedures are being followed.
  6. During the week groups participate in day programs and spend evenings participating in the evening program at the Philmont Training Center. There is one night that your unit can go on an overnight campout in the backcountry. Groups can opt out of scheduled programing for some self-guided options or a day to relax if they wish.
  7.  Friday is the last day of scheduled programming
  8. Departure from Philmont is Saturday Morning
