Philmont Land Symposium
August 19 – 21, 2025
Philmont recently welcomed partners, experts, and community members to the third annual Philmont Land Symposium, a gathering focused on collaboration and land stewardship.
Highlights included updates on Rio Grande Cutthroat Trout restoration, where partners shared successes from the largest native trout project in history, located at the Rio Costilla watershed, as well as ongoing work in the South Canadian River Basin and the Ponil Watershed. Presenters also discussed innovative restoration practices, including cross-boundary prescribed fire, stream and wetland restoration, Keyline plowing for soil health and water management, and piñon-juniper mastication, which restores the prairie through improved soil health and water availability for native grasses.
The symposium emphasized that large-scale conservation requires diverse partnerships, shared vision, and community involvement. Philmont is proud to play a role in connecting people, ideas, and landscapes to ensure healthy ecosystems for future generations.
