No matter which you choose—7, 9, or 12 days—every Philmont trek delivers the heart-pounding adventure, breathtaking scenery, and unforgettable camaraderie that define Scouting’s premier high-adventure experience.
You’ll hike rugged trails, summit dramatic peaks, and visit iconic backcountry camps while diving into hands-on programs like rock climbing, black powder rifle shooting, blacksmithing, and living history. Every trek begins at Base Camp and includes guidance from a seasoned Philmont Ranger during your first three days on the trail. You’ll also complete three hours of meaningful conservation work, earning the coveted Arrowhead Patch—a true mark of service and commitment to the land.
Sessions are available from early June to early August each year. Reservations are accepted on a first come, first served basis beginning October 1 two years prior. For instance, 2027 reservations open October 1, 2025.

By registering one to two years in advance, individuals have the best chance to secure their preferred trek dates and allows ample time for fundraising, physical conditioning, leadership development, and shakedown hikes to ensure you are up for the challenge of the Philmont.
Reservations are confirmed upon receipt of non-refundable deposit of $150 per person and a completed reservation form. The balance of fees are due by May 1.
