As the aspens turn gold and the air grows crisp, Philmont transforms into a breathtaking autumn escape. Fall programs offer a unique chance to experience the beauty of the backcountry in a quieter season, with treks designed for cooler weather and smaller groups.
When snow blankets the high country, Philmont becomes a wonderland of cold-weather adventure. Winter programs offer Scouts and Venturers the chance to experience the backcountry in a whole new way—building quinzees, snowshoeing through quiet forests, and earning winter-specific merit badges.
Sessions are available from early September to late October each year. Reservations are on a first come, first served basis in the November one year prior. For instance, 2026 reservations open November 2025.

By registering one year in advance, crews give themselves the best chance to secure their preferred trek dates and allows ample time for fundraising, physical conditioning, leadership development, and shakedown hikes to ensure everyone is ready for the challenge of the Philmont. Â
Reservations are confirmed upon receipt of non-refundable deposit of $500 per crew and a completed reservation form. The balance of fees are due upon arrival at Philmont.Â
