Experience the beauty of Philmont from the back of a horse! Riding experience is helpful but not required- we can teach you all you need to know to have a novel experience in the Philmont backcountry. The backcountry camps have already gathered so the program will consist of riding, hiking, sightseeing, and fellowship.
Schedule
Day 1 – Arrive at Philmont no earlier than 1:00 pm, no later than 3:00 pm. Check-in and complete medical recheck. Afterward, you will complete an orientation at Cattle Headquarters before dinner at the Philmont Training Center.
Day 2 – Report to Cattle Headquarters after breakfast, saddle your horse and hit the trail.
Day 3 – Riding, hiking, sightseeing, and fellowship.
Day 4 – Return from the trail
Day 5 – Museum tours, Tooth of Time Traders visit, depart Philmont
Basecamp tents are available for the night before and the night after the trail.
Requirements
- Be physically and mentally fit, weigh 200 lbs or less
- Be a member of the BSA
- Have a completed BSA Health and Medical Record (parts A, B, and C)
- Be 14 years old OR completed 8th grade and be at least 13 years of age prior to participation
Cost and Registration
Fall Cavalcades cost $500 per person for 2 nights at base camp/2 nights backcountry trek with a minimum of 6 crew members OR minimum $3,000 for crews less than 6. Up to two additional backcountry nights can be added for $125 per person/night.
