More Information About Kids N' Kin
The Kids N’ Kin program offers fun activities for youth ages 6 months to 17 years old. These activities are designed to give individuals an unforgettable adventure using the Philmont Ranch’s resources. Co-ed age-group itineraries are pre-designed and provide families with a comfortable structure that keeps kids engaged and full of discovery and memory-making opportunities. The programs meet every morning and are picked up by parents for lunchtime. They meet every afternoon except Wednesday and are picked up for dinner. Wednesday afternoon is a fun afternoon for the whole family to participate in the program together.
The co-ed aged groups are broken down into four groups

This program is for children aged 6 to 10. 5-year-olds may attend this program if they have completed kindergarten. The trappers’ age groups feature hikes, time at our climbing wall, a visit to the pony ring and farm yard, trips to the craft center, and much more! Philmont provides school bus and van transportation to get the youth to the trailheads. Due to New Mexico laws and our safety-conscious culture, children who are 5-6 years old or under 60lbs must use a booster seat in the vans or Suburbans. Philmont has some booster seats we use. If your child needs a specific seat, please provide one.

Kids and Kin groups participating in an overnight program will need to bring gear for that program. These age groups include the 11–13-year-olds (Loggers) and the 14–17-year-olds (Miners). The overnight programs take place on Thursday night during our stay. Children will return the following day on Friday. Children participating in the overnight campout must bring their own sleeping bag, sleeping pad, hiking shoes, a day pack, rain gear, two water bottles each holding a liter of water, and a comfortable bag to carry all their gear to their campsite. Youth will not be backpacking with all their gear. For their overnight, they will hike with a day pack and have their gear dropped off. They may have to carry those items a short distance to set up camp. A duffel bag or similar bag will be appropriate for holding most of their gear. Rolling luggage is not recommended for this event.
